About Guatemala El Sol Natural
Some coffees surprise us, and this Guatemala El Sol Natural did just that. While Guatemala is often associated with clean, chocolate-forward washed coffees, naturally processed lots like El Sol showcase an entirely different side of the country’s coffee-growing potential- one that’s fruit-forward, super sweet, and rather expressive.
Our newest single origin comes from Vides Farms in La Libertad, Huehuetenango, one of Guatemala’s most celebrated coffee-producing regions. Grown between 1,350 and 1,750 meters above sea level, this coffee benefits from cool mountain temperatures and ideal growing conditions that encourage slow cherry development and exceptional sweetness.
What Makes This Guatemala Coffee Unique
El Sol is produced by the Vides family, whose history stretches back to 1958 when founder Dr. Jorge Vides began cultivating coffee alongside his career as a physician. His passion for coffee eventually became a multigenerational family effort, and today the farm is fully dedicated to producing specialty coffee while continuing the legacy of quality and community that began decades ago.
Unlike the classic washed Guatemalan profile, El Sol is naturally processed. After harvest, the cherries undergo a 24-hour pre-fermentation before being floated and sorted. They’re then carefully dried for 17 days, with frequent turning throughout the drying process to promote even fermentation and preserve clarity in the cup. This patient approach allows the fruit sugars to infuse the coffee while maintaining balance and structure.
The result is a coffee that’s vibrant and fruit-driven, while still carrying the comforting chocolate sweetness Guatemala is known for.
Tasting Notes: Concord Grape, Milk Chocolate, and Raspberry
Guatemala El Sol Natural is one of those coffees that immediately stands apart from the typical Guatemalan profile. In the cup, expect notes of Concord grape, milk chocolate, and raspberry. Concord grape delivers a deep, jammy sweetness that’s rich without becoming heavy. Raspberry adds a bright, lively acidity that keeps the cup energetic, while milk chocolate ties everything together with a smooth, creamy finish.
The combination creates a coffee that’s both adventurous and approachable, making this a natural process coffee with plenty of fruit character but enough balance to appeal to a wide range of coffee drinkers.
Whether brewed as a pour-over, drip coffee, or espresso, Guatemala El Sol Natural produces a cup that’s juicy, sweet, and layered with complexity.
