About Uganda Sipi Falls
Some dark roasts are simply roasted darker. Others begin with exceptional coffees that retain their origin character even as deeper caramelization develops. Uganda Sipi Falls is one of those coffees.
Our newest dark roast comes from the northern slopes of Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda, where thousands of smallholder farmers cultivate organic coffee at high elevations. Their cherries are delivered to the Sipi Falls wet mill, where careful washing, drying, and quality control produce a remarkably clean and consistent cup that highlights the region’s natural sweetness and body.
What Makes This Ugandan Coffee Unique
Mount Elgon has become one of Uganda’s premier coffee-growing regions thanks to its volcanic soils, cool mountain climate, and ideal growing elevations. Rather than processing coffee individually, approximately 8,000 local farming families deliver freshly harvested cherries to the Sipi Falls wet mill in Kapchorwa, where the coffee is washed, patio dried, and prepared for export under carefully controlled conditions.
Centralizing processing allows for greater consistency while helping farmers receive better prices for their harvests. The result is a coffee that’s remarkably clean for a dark roast, offering both richness and clarity instead of smoky or overly bitter flavors.
While Uganda is often overshadowed by some of its East African neighbors, coffees from Mount Elgon continue to earn recognition for their balance, sweetness, and approachable profile, making them especially well suited for darker roast development.
